The Texas Real Estate Commission requires that brokers take the 6 hour Broker Responsibility course if they are a sponsoring broker, designated broker of a business entity or a delegated supervisor (for 6 months or more) supervising at least one salesperson. The Broker responsibility course is not in addition to the 18 hour of CE required for renewal; it is in conjunction with the 18 hours.

For example, Supervising Brokers are required to take:

  • 4 hours of TREC Legal Updates I
  • 4 hours of TREC Legal Updates II
  • 6 hours of Broker Responsibility
  • 4 hours of elective CE courses

Receiving Credit for Completed Courses

We submit notice of completed courses to the Texas Real Estate Commission 3 times a week. (This can also be done upon request.) You will receive an email verifying course completion and notification of submission to the Commission after you’ve completed each course. The Commission posts completion to rosters 24 hours after receiving notice. We keep records of all course completions for no less than 7 years.

Regulation of Online CE Courses

The Commission requires that online providers incorporate timers to help ensure that it takes the same amount of time to go through courses as the number of hours for which they are certified. For this reason we have incorporated a timing mechanism to ensure that a minimum seat time is spent in each course (equal to 50 minutes per credit hour). For example, a 3-hour course will be open and active for no less than 150 minutes.
