New Jersey licensees must complete 12 hours of CE every 2 years (6 hours of mandatory/core topic and must include at least 2hrs of Ethics, 1hr of Fair Housing and 1hr of Agency Law) and 6 hours of electives. Our packages include all required courses. License renewal is 6/30 of every odd numbered year however continuing education is due by 4/30 of every odd numbered year.

Upcoming change: New Jersey has approved changes expected to take effect for the 2027–2029 renewal cycle, including an increase to 18 hours of CE with a portion required through live instruction. The current 2025–2027 requirement (12 hours, due 4/30/2027) is unchanged.

Bringing your license out of referral status: The number of credits required by the Commission for bringing a license out of referral depends on the number of years that the license has been in referral and whether you were previously licensed as a salesperson, broker-salesperson, or broker. All credits must be in Core, Ethics, Fair Housing, and/or Agency topics and completed within the 2 years before you apply.

Previously licensed as a salesperson (returning to salesperson):

• 12 credits required if in referral for less than 3 years
• 18 credits required if in referral for 3 to 6 years
• 30 credits (24 in core topics) plus passing the salesperson exam if in referral for more than 6 years

Previously licensed as a broker or broker-salesperson (returning to broker or broker-salesperson):

• 18 credits required if in referral for less than 3 years
• 24 credits required if in referral for 3 to 6 years
• 30 credits (24 in core topics) plus passing the broker exam if in referral for more than 6 years

Never previously licensed (becoming a salesperson):

• No CE required if in referral for less than 1 year
• 24 credits required if in referral for 1 to 6 years
• Salesperson pre-licensure education and exam required if in referral for more than 6 years

There are no special first time renewal courses. Salespersons first licensed in the second year of a license term (for example, on or after July 1, 2026 for the term ending June 30, 2027) are not required to complete CE for that renewal. Salespersons first licensed in the first year of the term must complete the full 12 hours.
